Light: Most Philodendrons thrive in bright, indirect light but can tolerate medium light conditions. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves. Variegated varieties generally require brighter light to maintain their beautiful patterns.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain. Avoid soggy soil, which can lead to root rot.
Humidity: Loves moderate to high humidity, ideally 50–70%. A humidifier can help recreate the tropical environment these plants naturally enjoy. Thrives between 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts, heating vents, and sudden temperature changes.
Mature Size: Varies greatly by variety. Compact Philodendrons may remain 1–3 feet tall, while climbing varieties can develop vines several feet long. In their natural tropical habitat, some species climb more than 20 feet!
Plant Tip: Climbing Philodendrons love support! Providing a moss pole, wooden plank, or trellis encourages natural climbing behavior and can help certain varieties develop larger, more mature leaves.
Pet Safety: Philodendrons are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested.
