Light: Most indoor Ficus varieties thrive in bright, indirect light. Some, like the Rubber Plant, can tolerate gentle direct sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings, adjusting for the variety and pot size. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Avoid consistently soggy soil.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally 40–60% or higher for some tropical varieties. Keep away from heating vents and dry drafts. Thrives between 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Mature Size: Varies significantly by species. Indoors, many Ficus varieties reach 3–10 feet tall, depending on growing conditions, pruning, and container size. In their natural habitats, some species grow into towering trees exceeding 50 feet!
Plant Tip: Ficus plants appreciate consistency! Sudden changes in lighting, temperature, or location can cause leaf drop, particularly in Weeping Figs. Once you find a spot where your Ficus is thriving, avoid moving it unnecessarily. Rotate occasionally for even growth.
Pet Safety: Many common Ficus houseplants are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Their milky sap may also irritate skin.
